How do I become an Intensive Care Ambulance Paramedic?
The Professional Board for Emergency Care is responsible for the co-ordination of emergency care practitioners.
The current registration categories relevant to this occupation are the following:
- Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP)
- Student Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP S)
- Emergency Care Technician (ECT)
- Student Emergency Care Technician (ECT S)
- Paramedic (ANT)
- Ambulance Emergency Assistant (ANA)
- Basic Ambulance Assistant (BAA)
Path 1
- You will need your matric to do the training for Basic Ambulance Assistant.
Path 2
- 1000 hours of work experience as a Basic Ambulance Assistant before you can do the Ambulance Emergency Assistants course
Path 3
- 1000 hours of work experience as an Ambulance Emergency Assistants before you can do the Paramedics course course. This includes a Certificate in Advanced Life Support.
- Register with the HPCSA at a Paramedic

- National Diploma in Emergency Medical Care
- Register with the HPCSA as an Emergency Care Technician
