Science Foundation Provision and extended (four-year) science programmes

Science Foundation Provision (SFP) provides additional learning support in selected science qualifications and modules. This support is provided in the form of tutorials within each module, and in the form of mentorship and assistance in English language, quantitative and computer literacies. The purpose of Science Foundation Provision is to improve the success rate in science programmes and, hence, increase the throughput of our science students. • Many students these days enter the world of study with inadequate knowledge of the professional world and the work situation. The Student Counselling Service is officially the North-West University’s support department that assists learners from Grades 7-12 scientifically by means of psychological tests to make responsible choices and decisions regarding:

• Professional and course choice; and

• Realising potential.

• Students are also tested during the Reception and Introduction Programme for whethe rthey are studying in the right direction. Contact the Student Counselling Service at 018 299 2891.

ALTERNATIVE ACCESS PROGRAMMES

• Many prospective students come from schools that have not equipped them for admission to university in that they do not obtain the required point scores for admission to specific programmes. The University has developed innovative alternative access programmes to identify candidates who have the potential to succeed at university. Students identified by the programmes are recommended to Colleges. All final decisions are made by the Deans.
