What is a Midwife?

A Midwife is a specialised nurse who provides help and advice to women during:

• Pregnancy
• Labour
• Postnatal Care

They can work for themselves assisting home births or work in hospitals, communities, clinics or in mobile health units.

What is an Auxiliary Nurse?

Auxiliary Nurses carry out basic nursing procedures and take care of patients on a less specialized level under the supervision of a registered nurse.

An Auxiliary Nurse must be registered with the South African Nursing Council.

Staff Nurses assist doctors with medical procedures and taking care of patients. 

Staff Nurses take care of the sick, injured and the weak and are involved in health guidance and counseling. They form part of a team of professional workers such as doctors and other medical personnel.

Acute Care
