28 year old Gauteng-based Pelican Khumalo finally realized his dream of earning a degree in education after working as a taxi driver for seven years.
After matriculating at the Eqinisweni Secondary School in Ivory Park, Khumalo enrolled for a higher certificate in Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) at UNISA in 2015 and graduated on November 12. He continued working as a taxi driver to fund his studies and care for his siblings.
But he is not done yet. His goal is to continue his studies toward a PhD in education if he can secure a bursary. “Teaching to me is the labour of the heart. I may have started small but I know that I am going far.”
Pelican Khumalo, you are an inspiration.
