Teddy Nzama, wrapped proudly in his SA flag, was named Best Barista for Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) ahead of 15 000 Starbucks employees at the final ceremony in London.
Teddy started his career two years ago at Starbucks in Florida Rd in Durban.
Still not sure how to process this stunning achievement, he humbly said he was just happy to be home and that he was going to keep doing what he was doing.
The finals of the prestigious competition were run over three days, with 29 selected finalists which were then trimmed down to 16.
A panel of experts selected Teddy as the overall winner due to his unique abilities and his inspiring story.
His prize will include a trip to Milano Roastery in Milan as well as a tour of leading coffee farms in Rwanda.
