When Hugh Masekela wrote the deeply inspirational song Thuma Mina (“Send me”), later adopted by President Ramaphosa in his 2018 state of the nation speech, he saw a future where ordinary South Africans answered the call to turn the country around, and not wait for government to make the changes needed.
