Foreign Affairs Officer
Economic, political and commercial interests are protected and promoted by foreign affairs officers. They observe conditions in foreign countries and report back to government agencies. They assist foreign nationals travelling to South Africa. Their duties are fourfold: consular affairs, political affairs, adminitration and economic and commercial affairs. They provide personal, medical, travel and legal assistance to South African citizens in foreign countries. They also register births and deaths and issue passport and visas. They also negotiate agreements between governments.
