They have the authority to train and hire staff and also keep an eye on other staff members.  They ensure that equipment is in good working order, prepare staff timetables and plan budgets.  They also arrange recreation programs for students during holidays.  They answer queries and advise clients on the most suitable programs.  They also advise sports bodies on recreation plans and policies.  They may specialise in a particular field and need to have thorough knowledge of not only the various types of sports, but also the human body.  Many sports managers have coaching experience.  They need to have a natural ability to motivate and inspire others.
