What is a Switchboard Operator?
A Switchboard Operator is a professional person who manages the switchboard which is the telephone system used by the company.

Switchboards are usually used in large companies, hotels, factories and other settings where a large number calls are received.
In very large companies, the Switchboard Operator is the first person to answer a call. They will route the call to a receptionist in a department who will then, route the call to the intended staff member. They also route internal calls from one staff member to another.
These days, switchboards are highly computerized. The Switchboard Operator focuses on answering calls and re-routing them to the correct person in the company.
They may also take messages and make calls on behalf of other staff members.
