    Which TVET courses can I take?

    Not everyone is suited to a traditional academic school environment – and there are really good options available for those who prefer a more hands-on approach to learning.

    There are 2 paths available for vocational training at TVET colleges.

    1. Start in grade 10

    • National  Certificate Vocational NC(V)  or
    • NATED (N1-3): Engineering track

    2. Start after matric:

    • NATED: Post Matric Programmes (N4-6).

    It is also possible to start the NATED N4 track with a grade 11 if you have a minimum pass of 50% in maths. Entry with matric is possible with maths or maths literacy.

    National Certificate Vocational NC(V) 

    Description NC(V) programmes are delivered under the auspices of the Department of Higher Education and Training and quality assured by Umalusi. The programmes integrate theory and practice and provide students with a broad range of knowledge and practical skills within specific industry fields.
    Admission Requirements NC(V) Grade 9 + college requirements set per programme
    NATED: N1: Grade 11 with Maths/ (minimum 50% pass) or
    Gr 12 with Maths / (Maths Lit 50%)
    N2: N1 or equivalent
    N3: N2 or equivalent
    Duration 3 Years (1 year per level)
    Qualification Full Certificates on NQF Level 2, 3 and 4
    NC(V) Level 4 Certificate is equivalent to National Senior Certificate (matric)
    Next step Practical training + work experience + trade test = Become an artisan!
    Financial assistance Bursaries available for financially and academically qualifying students

     

    NATED: Post Matric Programmes (N4-6)

    Description NATED programmes are delivered under the auspices of the Department of Higher Education and Training and quality assured by Umalusi. The programmes consist of 18 months theoretical studies at colleges and 18 months relevant practical application in workplaces.

    Engineering studies range from N1 – N6
    Business and Utility Studies range from N4 – N6

    Admission Requirements N4: N3 or equivalent qualification
    Duration 1 Year for N4 – N6 Engineering Studies
    3 Years (18 months theoretical studies + 18 months workplace application) for N4 – N6 Business and Utility Studies
    Qualification N6 National Diploma
    After completion Study further at a University of Technology (BTech degree) or find employment.
    Financial assistance Bursaries available for financially and academically qualifying students

    NC(V): Engineering and Related Design – Fabrication (Welding)
    NC(V): Engineering and Related Design – Fitting and Turning
    NC(V): Engineering and Related Design – Motor Mechanics
    Business Related NC(V): Office Administration
    NC(V): Finance, Economics and Accounting
    Information Technology NC(V): Information Technology and Computer Science
    Tourism and Hospitality NC(V): Tourism
    NC(V): Hospitality
    Safety in Society NC(V): Safety in Society
