    10 tips for university applications

    1. Choose your universities. What if you do not get into the university of your choice? Choose at least 3. Here is a link to all the public universities in South Africa.
    2. Download their prospectuses/student guides/handbooks so that you know all there is to know.
    3. Choose your courses. Most courses at university are oversubscribed, so choose at least 3 courses.
    4. Have a plan B. What if you do not get accepted at any university? Start exploring distance options (eg UNISA), private universities, TVET colleges, both public and private.
    5. Note the application deadlines. For most courses, it is 30th September, but there are some which are earlier.
    6. Most universities prefer you to apply online. Get familiar with the process and have all your documents at hand before you begin.
    7. Applying is not the same as registering. You can only register when you have been accepted.
    8. Explore fees and your ability to pay. Read about NSFAS nsfas.org.za.
    9. You need to be accepted in a course before applying for a Bursary.
    10. If you need accommodation, apply early.
