What is a Clearing & Forwarding Agent?

A Clearing & Forwarding Agent can also be known as a Logistics Forwarder / Customs Clearer or Customs Broker.

They can work in factories, warehouses, courier companies or companies that deal with import and/or exports.

What does a Clearing & Forwarding Agent do?

  • carry out customs clearing procedures
  • ensure insurance and licences (import & export) are in order
  • facilitate the movement of cargo locally and internationally
  • make sure all procedures comply with current legislation
  • receive goods
  • store goods in warehouses
  • maintain recores of receipt of goods and dispatch of goods

How do I become a Clearing & Forwarding Agent?

National Certificate in International Trade NQF Level 2
Requirements: Minimum ABET Level 4 or equivalent NQF Level 2

National Certificate in Freight Forwarding & Customs Compliance NQF Level 3
Requirements: Matric/Grade 12 + Mathematics + Geography

FET Certificate in Freight Forwarding & Customs Compliance NQF Level 4
Requirements: National Certificate in Freight Forwarding & Customs Compliance NQF Level 3

National Diploma in Freight Forwarding & Customs Compliance NQF Level 5
Requirements: FET Certificate in Freight Forwarding & Customs Compliance NQF Level 4
