What is an Engraver?

An Engraver is a skilled artisan.  They engrave (‘cut’) delicately fine graphics or lettering into different types of material.

These materials could be:

Metal

 jewellery, trophies, signs, special metal plates for printing money etc 

Glass

 trophies, corporate gifts, etc 

Stone

 corporate gifts, headstones, specialist items, etc 

Wood

 corporate gifts, home décor and other goods, etc 

Various

Engravers may engrave almost any substrate for artistic purposes

An Engraver usually works with specialist, precision tools and large magnifying glasses. 

They usually specialise in a particular field of engraving.  For example: engraving names onto things.

What does an Engraver do?

  • draws up designs or lettering required for engraving
  • uses special tools and lasers, engraves the design
  • wipes and blows away debris while working
  • polishes finished product
  • works neatly and carefully, – some items are very expensive and cannot afford a mistake
