What is a Make-up Artist?

A Make-up Artist works in different fields including applying make-up:

  • in beauty salons (eg wedding make-up etc)
  • on movie and television sets (eg celebrities as well as on ‘extras’)
  • in photographic studios (eg on individuals for portraiture or on fashion models). 

Some Make-up Artists are also Hair Stylists.  This is an added advantage when looking for work.

What does a Make-up Artist do?

  • meets with clients and talks about what they want
  • finds out if clients are allergic to any products
  • stocks up on equipment and supplies
  • maintains good, hygienic habits – equipment and products
  • makes appointments and arrives on time
  • researches current fashion trends in make-up
  • constantly practises new techniques
