School Teacher: Grade 4 – 9

A School Teacher teaches learners. A Grade 4 to 9 Teacher can teach at a primary or high school at these grade levels.

School Teachers are trained and qualified.


What does a School Teacher: Grade 4 – 9 do?

  • designs and creates interesting lesson plans in line with the national curriculum
  • prepares discussion, demonstration etc
  • prepares materials for class activities
  • adapts teaching methods for learners who are struggling or need more attention
  • observes learners’ performances and behaviours
  • enforces discipline in class
  • prepares tests and examinations and marks them
  • writes reports
  • participates in school activities
  • organises class outings
  • liaises with other staff members, parents and guardians

How do I become a School Teacher: Grade 4 – 9?

You will need to get a qualification.

Economics and Management Teacher – (OFO No: 233103)

  • 4 year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), specialising in Economic and Management Sciences.
  • 3-4 year Bachelor’s degree in a related field, followed by a one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

Life Skills Teacher – (OFO No: 233104)

  • 4 year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), specialising in Life Orientation.
  • 3-4 year Bachelor’s degree in a related field , followed by a one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

Mathematics Teacher – (OFO No: 233101)

  • 4 year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), specialising in Mathematics.
  • 3-4 year Bachelor’s degree in a related field, followed by a one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

Social Sciences Teacher – (OFO No: 233105)

  • 4 year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), specialising in Social Sciences.
  • 3-4 year Bachelor’s degree in a related field, followed by a one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
