What is a High School Teacher?

A High School Teacher teaches high school learners. In this section we will concentrate on teachers who teach Grade 10 to 12 learners.

These High School Teachers have to be qualified and they specialise in one or more subjects.

What does a High School Teacher do?

  • designs and creates interesting lesson plans in line with the national curriculum
  • prepares discussion, demonstration etc
  • prepares materials for class activities
  • adapts teaching methods for learners who are struggling or need more attention
  • observes learners’ performances and behaviours
  • enforces discipline in class
  • prepares tests and examinations and marks them

  • 3-4 year Bachelor’s degree in a specific field such as Accounting, followed by a one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

  • 4 year Bachelor of Education Degree (B.Ed) specialising in Agricultural Sciences.
  • 3-4 year Bachelor of Science degree in a specific field such as Agriculture, followed by a one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
