What is a Computer Security Specialist?

A Computer Security Specialists are very important IT people.

They are in charge of making sure that the company’s:

  • Company data is not stolen or altered
  • Computer networks are not hacked
  • Computer networks are not used in fraud
  • Computer networks are not infected with viruses or malware
  • Computer networks are not affected by natural disasters etc.

They are also part of the support team, so they assist with the maintenance, upgrading, troubleshooting and repairs.

Most big companies employ Computer Security Specialists. Banks, financial companies, security companies, government etc would all need Computer Security Specialists.

What does a Computer Security Specialist do?

  • assesses what is running on the current computers
  • sets up monitoring device systems
  • makes sure that firewalls are working
  • makes sure anti-virus software is installed and regularly updated
  • makes sure that networking systems are free of viruses and other malware
  • helps with recovery of data during a natural disaster
  • maintains backups
  • helps make sure business runs smoothly at all times
  • liaise with computer engineering staff
  • troubleshoots and mends any problems
  • assists law enforcement in a fraud case
  • keeps up to date with new technology
